Re: Speed Cameras
I wrote the software that the Australian Police use to locate their speed cameras.
Basically they could configure how the software chose where to put camera based on their priorities and my code would analyse the accident and traffic data and tell them where to put the cameras.
It had options for where the most fatalities/accidents were and also whether they were speed related or not.

Unfortunately they still had the option on picking locations based purely on where people were speeding so could still site cameras where they get the most money.

Still, it did stop the placing them in cuntish locations like just after a brow of a hill or just after a change in speed restriction.

This has been the pinicale of my life's work so far. I may have to write a book about my life's achievements.

It'll give me something to do while I'm boiling the kettle for my next cup of tea.

Snow is fucking scary.

People drive with the separation they should have in dry weather.

Re: Speed Cameras
I don't entirely disagree with speed cameras though in some cases they are blatently there to make money rather than to make the roads safer
If the plan was to make the roads safer they would clamp down heavily on tailgaters who cause the multiple pile-ups particularly on motorways
The gap should be 1 car length for every 10mph not 1car length at 70mph
You never see people getting done for tailgating

Re: Speed Cameras
lowermarsh: there's a junction between Liverpool and Manchester, where they often have a mobile camera on a bridge overlooking the junction itself.

You get up to speed to join the motorway, and then some bloke already on it catches the camera car in his rear view mirror, and slams on the brakes. He's probably only going 75 to start with, and ends up at 60 or less.

You have to slam on the brakes too, and hope the bloke behind you does as well.

The coppers have been sat there watching this for years, and they seemingly haven't twigged how dangerous it is.

Re: Speed Cameras
I drive fast more often than Lewis Hamilton.

The only time I got done for speeding was over 30 yrs ago when I was 17, and I still think that copper was a lying cunt.

It's called being aware. If you drive fast and are not paying attention to your surroundings you deserve to get done.

HTH.

Re: Speed Cameras
I prefer average speed cameras because you know where you stand.

Intermittent speed cameras are a cunt, you always see massive skid marks around them. Accident black spots for sure.

Re: Speed Cameras
Is there a worserer road in the country for cameras than the A127 (Especially after Hornchurch)?

They might as well double up as fucking lamp posts there are so many of them.

Re: Speed Cameras
A lot more seem to have gone up recently on the M25 between the A12 and M11. (and beyond)

Anybody know for sure how they work?

Do they do your speed at the point when you go past or are they like average speed cameras and average your speed out over more than one set of cameras?

Yes, I might go a bit fast, 85 on the speedo = tops 79 ish. Plus I'm in a hurry because I can't use my phone whilst I'm on two wheels.

Phil I'm all for putting speed cameras near parks and schools.

And if they were about saving lives that's where they'd be. ... But they're not.
